PM Chastanet Message to Diaspora in New York as Independence 38 Kicks Off


This year’s independence observances kicked off with the annual Independence Gospel Festival. This musical celebration took place on Saturday, February 4, from 7:00 PM, at the Advent Fellowship Church of Brooklyn, 1666 Bergen Street, and featured Saint Lucian gospel entertainers, church choirs, praise dancers, and other inspirational performers.

A video address to the Saint Lucian diaspora, by Prime Minister Allen Chastanet, was also presented.

There will also be an exciting new addition to the Independence 38 schedule, a marketplace designed to give Saint Lucian entrepreneurs a unique opportunity to promote their businesses.  More importantly it will help showcase and sell their products and services.  The marketplace will be staged at Saint Lucia House, located at 438 E 49 Street in Brooklyn, on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, commencing at 6:00 PM.

The consulate will also host the Young Saint Lucian Professionals Mixer, scheduled for Thursday February 16, starting at 7:00 PM, at the Saint Lucian-owned Suede Restaurant, located at 5610 Clarendon Road, Brooklyn.  Now in its second year, this initiative is intended to support the aspirations of young Saint Lucian professionals, and foster the careers of the country’s future business leaders.

The highlight of this year’s calendar is the annual Independence Gala slated for Saturday, February 25, 2017, from 7:00 PM on, at the elegant Woodhaven Manor, located at 96-01 Jamaica Avenue, in Woodhaven, Queens.

All Saint Lucian nationals in the tri-state area, their friends, and the general public are invited to join this special celebration of our island’s rich cultural heritage.

A calendar of events has also been scheduled to mark the 38th. Independence anniversary.
