The National Arts Festival is geared towards the celebration and development of the talents of Saint Lucia’s creatives.
The literary component of the festival, “Poetry Night Live”, provides aspiring poets and established writers an opportunity to present their work. This year, poet Kendell Hippolyte will be under the spotlight. He will be joined by Christine “Chrycee” Charlemagne, Lambert “Skai” Soomer and Joshua Soomer for an extra special set under the theme, “Sounds of the Castries Underground”.
Additionally, members of Headphunk and the Writers’ Forum will make presentations through music, dramatic pieces and spoken word. Poetry Night Live is scheduled for Friday, 28th April from 7:00 p.m. on Cadet Street in Castries. (behind the Valmont building, next to Fry Bar).
For two days, (Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th April), exuberant members of YouthSPAC, under the direction of Kentillia Louis, will hit the National Cultural Centre stage for the theatrical presentation of “Requiem for a badjohn”, a play by Katherine Atkinson. Tickets to Theatre Night are available from CDF’s Barnard Hill office and from cast members. Gates will open from 7:00 p.m. for the 8:00 p.m. commencement of the acclaimed thespian presentation.
