Canadian High Commissioner, Marie Legault paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Castries. The Commissioner and Mayor Peterson Francis discussed the twinning of Castries to a city in Canada. Also discussed were challenges experienced in the day to day management of the city of Castries.
Managing the various structures of government that will assist in city management were also addressed as the High Commissioner extended her government’s support to the Mayor. Councillors also sought information on how the Canadian government can help with improving the function and operation of the City Police.
Marie Legault became high commissioner to Barbados on July 20, 2016 replacing Richard Hanley.
She has been the Director of Canadian Global Affairs in Haiti since July 2014 and was Head of Cooperation at the Canadian Embassy in Jamaica 2010-2014.
The High Commission in Barbados provides services to Barbados, the six OECS countries (Antigua and Barbuda, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines), and the three British Overseas Territories (Anguilla, British Virgin Islands and Montserrat) in the region. It also offers consular and trade services in Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint-Martin and Sint Maarten.
